    A Look Back.

Back to the Blog.

Apologies for my blog absence. Honestly, coming back from vacation, I was so relaxed and happy and de-stressed. I wasn’t quite ready to jump back into my real life right away. And that includes blogging.

But it’s been a week, and it’s freezing cold and snowing outside, and that alone tells me that the vacation is over. Nine days of Mexico bliss would take way too long to tell you about, and would probably bore you anyways, so I will just stick to the basics.

We spent our first four days at the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda Resort. We had never been there before, and based our stay off of online reviews. I am happy to report that we looooved it. It was really spread out, so you had to walk all over to get around, which turned out to be a very good thing. Since the resort was all-inclusive, we could eat and drink any and all that we wanted – and did we ever. So having to walk a mile to the beach bar turned out to be a mixed blessing.

The hotel also had a really nice gym, and Casey and I worked out every day we were there! Crazy, right? We were also very outnumbered by European and Mexican travelers, so we spent our Election Night camped out in our hotel room watching CNN. It felt very strange to be so far away while such a huge event was happening back home. We tried to do our part by hanging our Obama sign off the window of our balcony!

The second four days were spent at the Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun. This is the hotel we stayed in last year, when we received the complimentary return trip! It was just as nice as we remembered it. The food was a little too good though, and the drinks a little too creamy and fabulous, and I am definitely up five pounds upon my return to the good ole USA. Thank god we worked out the first four days. If not I imagine I would have needed a second plane ticket for my fat ass. I’ve been working hard to get back to pre-vacation Emily, but it is going slooooowly. The cold weather makes me want to skip my runs, and my new part-time job is taking up a lot of time.

Have I mentioned that I work here now? Cincinnati’s brand new store opens Thursday, and I’ve been working hard to help get the store ready for opening! As the holidays approached, and a new higher-paying job continued to not fall directly into my lap, I knew it was once again time for me to get a dreaded part-time job. Since I refuse to go back to the Gap, I’m trying something new. So far so good. Really nice people and fabulously gorgeous things I want to blow my whole paycheck on. It is an exercise in temptation resistance…

So that’s what I’ve been doing. Coming off of my vacation high, and working my butt off. Casey and I are really excited to be hosting Thanksgiving this year – joint celebrations with both of our families! Details on that, as well as Save the Date updates to come. For now, pictures of Playa Del Carmen and all it’s greatness…

Last night on the beach at sunset. Only decent picture of the two of us.

Casey showing off the view from our top-floor ocean view room!

The pool and beach at the Secrets Capri – and view from our balcony!

Representing in Mexico. Way to go America, thanks for making me proud!

Instead of bar stools, the beach bar had SWINGS!

Back to Reality

It was 94 degrees and sunny in Playa Del Carmen.

It is icky and 40 degrees and raining in Cincinnati.

I am choosing to disappear in my memories and thoughts of sunnier places. Not enough time for a real post today, but I promise that tomorrow I will recount the lovely, fabulous, wonderful, relaxing, just-what-i-needed perfection that was the past 8 days…

For now, there is this. Pierdo México…
