We finally freed ourselves and made it out of the house! We ran some errands and went to Home Depot for some special crafty supplies, and then headed home to get things done, and finish shoveling our way out. We made it down the icy driveway, but back up was not happening – it is a sheet of ice! We shoveled for a bit when we got back, and then took a break because we were starving.
Lunch was an assortment of delicious fruit, and tomato basil tortillas with spinach, red pepper & eggplant spread, and veggie burgers – YUM!

After lunch, I was afraid we were going to lose the sunshine and the ice would re-freeze, but Casey had work phone calls he had to take. So I headed out alone armed with my garden shovel and snow shovel, and worked my butt off. Don’t I look so pleased?
My back was killing me when I was done! I was extra motivated to get this thing cleared because we are supposed to be getting a new dryer tonight, and that wasn’t going to happen with a sheet of ice on the driveway. I hadn’t bothered to complain about it this weekend, but on Saturday, right after I stripped the sheets off the beds, and washed all the towel in the house – the dryer broke. So every towel in our house is soaking wet, and I had to put dirty sheets back on the bed. Awesome! Our landlord hasn’t been able to bring our new dryer yet though because of the ice, so now he has no excuse!
Next up was the crafty project – we are painting a CHALKBOARD! Casey is working on a program to get his PhD in Math, and he really wanted a chalkboard to use for working out problems. Plus I am an eternal list-maker, so I want a little corner of the board for keeping track of things and checking things off! Casey started by measuring off the area…
And then painting layer number one! We are both immediate gratification-type people, and this paint says that you shouldn’t use it for three days, in order to let it dry completely. That is going to be very hard for us…
While Casey painted, I ran! Thanks for all your movie selections. I have seen Spirit of the Marathon before, and actually own it, so your suggestions inspired me to consider another running movie. I rented Run For Your Life – the story of the man who founded the New York City Marathon. It was really disappointing though – totally boring. Booooo.
Casey finished the first coat on the chalkboard while I watched my boring movie…
And then he came running into the office to tell me that the dogs were gone! WHAT!?! He had accidentally left the garage door open, and the door to the garage from the backyard open, and our sneaky pups and decided to go exploring. I guess they wanted to go play in the snow! After about 15 minutes of panicked running around the neighborhood (in my short and tank top in the freezing cold), I saw Casey walking towards me with two very sorry looking dogs. BAD DOGS!
Now I’m off to finish my run and wait for our landlord to hopefully bring our new dryer. Otherwise I’m going to have to figure out a creative way to wash my culinary uniform for tomorrow…

Hi Emily,
I randomly clicked on a link to one of your old posts that caught my eye and ended up reading through a bunch of them. I found a few recipes I would love to try (including the tofu stir-fry recipe here), and then realized they aren’t included in your recipage entries. I assume maybe there were just too many to go back through and enter all of them, but I found quite a few which look really good and which I would love to be able to find again (and probably again and again)… so if there is an easy way to add more of your older recipes to the collection, I would love it!
Thanks!
~Emily~
