Racing against the clock!! So much to do, so little time to blog… Yesterday was my last day on the farm – bittersweet to leave after eleven weeks of fun. I said goodbye to my animal friends…
Cooked one last tomato pie, this time with a delicious quinoa crust!
And walked the grounds one last time…

Felt very fitting to wear my culinary arts shirt on the LAST DAY of my culinary arts program!!

I drove out the farm gates one last time, raced home to grab my bags, and headed straight to the airport! Upon arrival, I had a few minutes to kill, so I popped into a gift shop to browse the magazine collection. I was pretty excited to see this finally on the stands…

I have been secretly waiting for this September issue to come out for MONTHS…
Right there sitting on the floor of the airport, I flipped through the pages and my heart literally lept when I saw THIS…
My blog is featured on page 190 of the current issue as the “site-seeing” blog for September!!
There is also a pullout page inside with a list of go-to websites for saving time.
![]()
And The Front Burner is listed in the “Food and Fun” category! Pretty cool to be listed with other big sites like Better Homes and Gardens, Netflix, and Google!!
Seeing my blog listed in a magazine was a total “pinch me” moment. Feels like all the hard work I’ve done has really amounted to something special. :)
Off to explore a little more of the windy city with all my new HLS friends!! :)

Im about to do my 3rd half on Sunday and would love to challenge my body and mind with marathon training.

Emily,
You are so talented. Congratulations!
Now we need the recipe for the tomatoe quinoa pie listed above. How can I make it without eggs?

Thank you!! If you want to leave out the egg, maybe try the flax-egg trick and add a bit of that mixture? Combine ground flax and water to reach an eggwhite-like consistency. Works like a charm!

Congrats! I hope you ladies are having tons of fun in Chicago – it is one of this NYC girl’s favorite cities. I wanted to recommend a great restaurant, since you seem to be in need. Gioco’s on Wabash Ave – I had the most amazing brunch of my life and a delicious lunch salad as well. It’s probably a hike from your hotel, but totally worth it.
Have fun! Alanna

Congratulations!!! You deserve it!
I think it’s so awesome how far you’ve come in the past year. Your time at the farm sounds like such an amazing experience that you’ll remember forever. It’s really uncomfortable to push ourselves out of our comfort zones, but once you do it’s totally worth it and only gets easier.
Have fun at the HLS!
