Presidents Day Parade.
One of the fun things about living in Old Town is that you never quite know what or who you’ll see walking down the street…
Earlier this week I saw signs for a big parade happening this afternoon, so I figured I’d take a mid-day break to enjoy the occasion.
And lucky for me, it turned out my friend Ashley was going too! Friends make standing in the misty cold rain much more fun. :)
I was surprised that given the freezing cold temps and drizzly rain, so many people still turned out to show their love for George Washington.
No parade is complete without a color guard!
This marching band was playing “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. I LOVED it.
And this daisy troop was quite possibly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
There were families, dogs, old, young – people from all over Alexandria. It’s so fun that all of this goes on just a few blocks from my front door!
I was so impressed with this unicycling group. They couldn’t have been much older than ten!
I know I’m getting old when I see this and all I can think is “that’s so dangerous!”
Another parade classic: old men in tiny cars.
A few crazies showed up to warn us about the end of the world coming up…
But luckily there were clowns there to lighten the mood.
Many many thanks to Ashley and her husband Jorge for hanging out in the bitter cold with me for an hour. The parade was HUGE!
I returned home with frozen feet, very pink cheeks, and some exciting parade loot – peanut M&M’s and patriotic beads!
Now I am back inside de-thawing and getting ready to get back to work. Nothing like a mid-day break for a patriotic parade. Getting excited for the next holiday coming up later this week – MY 30th BIRTHDAY!
