Summer most definitely came to Seattle this weekend! I was determined to spend as much time out in the sunshine as possible. After getting up early and walking 5.5 miles around Greenlake with Casey, Sarah and I headed to Golden Gardens for an afternoon at the BEACH!
Until we drove over there yesterday, I had no idea that something so gorgeous was hiding just ten short minutes from my house. Literally breathtaking.
While the pictures are pretty, they do no justice to actually sitting there and taking it all in.
The grass and beach were filled with families, dogs, picnickers, sunbathers, adorable babies, and everyone else in Seattle.
The sun was hot, but there was a wonderful cool breeze coming off the mountains. It was perfect.
This was my first of many days exploring the Seattle beaches, and I can’t wait to try out all of the others. I feel so lucky to live somewhere so beautiful!
After a long day in the sun, we cooled down back at the house before heading out for a delicious dinner with Casey. We tried a new (to us) spot in Fremont called Chiso for vegetarian sushi!
Starting with edamame…
And a veggie tempura appetizer. My favorite was the eggplant!
Casey got some sort of yummy vegan veggie and rice bowl.
While Sarah and I split a few sushi rolls!
Sarah was a fan of the tempura onion ring.
One of the things I missed the most when I stopped eating fish was sushi. Vegetarian sushi is the perfect substitute!
A perfect end to a perfect Seattle day.

Glad your weekend was fabulous :)

Wasn’t this weekend amazing?? After weeks and weeks of rain, I sometimes start wondering why I live here…but then the sun comes out and it all comes back to me. There’s no place like Washington on a sunny day!

Oh, Seattle! I miss it… So excited to come home on Wednesday :) I always likened Seattle to one of htose high school girls who’s rather plain most of the time, but then somehow comes out of nowhere and is stunningly beautiful and one of hte prettiest places on earth when she’s sunny and at her peak. :)
Lovely photos!

As a fellow NWer (B’hamer- someday you should check this town out)… don’t let the summer spoil you too much, it as good as it gets, but we pay for it come November to March. Enjoy the next couple months. There is nothing better than a Northwest Summer. :)

Why are you telling me that? :) Honestly, I don’t really think anywhere is particularly fabulous in January, so I’m willing to endure the grey and rain for nice summers. So far I’ve really liked it here!

This place looks absolutely stunning! I’m glad you were able to enjoy it.

That looks like an amazing place to live. There is a chance we might be moving to Seattle in the near future for my husband’s work. I’m almost really looking forward to it now after reading all about it on your blog and all the yummy places to eat. Thanks for the updates.

After a long blog reading break I come back and find not only a name change but also your move to Seattle. Welcome to the west coast! I’m up in Vancouver (the Canadian one). For veg sushi the best is Yam/sweet potato Tempura roll:)

hi emily. i’m not 100% sure about this BUT i heard (from a pregnant friend) that rice is not good when you’re pregnant. i can’t remember why though, it might be worth looking into..
seattle is breathtaking, you’re correct.

Rice is fine during pregnancy. You may be confused with the precaution for sushi. Sushi should be avoided during pregnancy because of the fish. Vegetarian sushi is typically okay as it doesn’t contain any fish, but my OB asked me to avoid it while I’m pregnant in case of cross contamination. Ever doctor is different as to what they recommend, but I’m almost 100% sure that just plain rice is fine. I’ve been eating the heck out of it so I hope so!
Seattle is so gorgeous!

That day pretty much sums up what life is about, taking in and enjoying beautiful surroundings with the people we love, then filling our faces with the food we love! :)

As an Australian, it always, always, blows me away that you can see mountains covered in snow from a Beach. I saw it for myself in Vancouver, but it almost doesn’t compute!
[Reply]
The beaches look so beautiful. I love the view of the mountains.
Best veggie sushi is definitely, DEFINITELY sweet potato tempura roll . . . drooooooooool
[Reply]
What a beautiful view. I’m very jealous. My husband and I would love to move to Portland, Seattle, Denver, or Austin. Thank you for sharing Seattle with me!

That park looks stunning! One of the cool things about blogging.. reading blogs.. is that you really get to see unique parts of the country.. the world.. in real pictures, by real people!

That really is a gorgeous beach! It’s so unexpected to look out in the ocean and see SNOW-capped mountains when you’re at the beach ;)
You and your sister look gorgeous!
[Reply]
I’m so jealous of your weather! I’m in Florisa and it’s way too hot to be outside. Once you’re outside for more than ten minutes, you are sweating buckets. It makes it hard to enjoy the sun.
[Reply]
I had no idea Seattle was so beautiful. You never really see the beaches in Washington but they are incredible compared to the beaches on the East Coast.

Such a gorgeous place to live! Love the dress ;-)

WOW! seriously beautiful, what gorgoeous scenery. You and Sarah look really pretty too.
Off topic question to all readers of this amazing blog- I am coming over to the US in August ( I live in London) and I will be visiting Pheonix, AZ and San Diego, LA and Vegas- any restaurant/touristy tips? I have never been to any of these places before and would love to know where to go and what to do! Thanks xxx

Places where you can get wet? LOL. Phoenix and Vegas especially will be in the 100s (F) during August! I’ve been to all 4 cities but not recently and no real specific ideas. There’s all the Disney stuff near LA and of course Grand Canyon in AZ but that is pretty far from Phoenix – still if I came that far, I’d be sure to go!

Thanks! Oh goodness 100 degrees, I am going to melt! Definitely going to Grand Canyon but was going to do it as a trip from Vegas. I am not exactly a gambler so wont be sad to take a day out of Vegas! Not too sure about the Disney world etc as have been to Paris and Florida when I was younger, so may give it a miss in LA. I haven’t been to America for about 8 years and I am so excited to come back. I lived in Virginia, near DC when I was younger and in New York for a bit, can’t wait to return!

Wow your pictures are beautiful – being from Atlanta, I’m so jealous of the cooler weather you guys have out there, and the beautiful scenery!
Do you ever miss fish anymore? How long did it take til you “got used” to being a vegetarian?

I don’t really miss fish at all. I transitioned pretty gradually, so it wasn’t really that hard for me to give things up bit by bit.
[Reply]
That does look like such a gorgeous day! I love when the sky is so blue like that. Also, veggie tempura is so good. I’ve only had it a few times before but always love it.

Very pretty!
I am a big fan of sushi. These rolls look delicious, although I could never give up my spicy tuna. :)
[Reply]
Beautiful. That’s one thing that I don’t like about living in Georgia – too far from the beaches. When I was growing up in the DC area, we could at least get to the beach in 2.5 hours.
[Reply]
Seattle looks beautiful.

Chiso is my favorite vegetarian sushi ever. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I lived in Seattle for two years, and when I see pictures like that, it does make my heart kind of ache for it! Not that Southern CA doesn’t offer its own world of wonders, but there are those times when I really miss the urban-scene mixed with the outdoorsy nature of Seattle.

It was definitely a beautiful weekend here in Seattle. Glad you and sister made it to Golden Gardens. It has a special place in my heart since that is where my husband proposed just 2 years ago! You should definitely check out Discovery Park. It is also really close to Fremont and it has beautiful views of Puget Sound and a great place for a run or to walk the dogs.

:) We try to keep the stunning scenery a secret so that we don’t get too many transplants from other states (but I am glad that you guys are here!!)! Ha ha!
