It was the race that almost didn’t happen. But it did, and I’m done, and I’m proud. 13.1 miles on an 80+ degree day.
Headed to Cincinnati now to watch Casey get ready to run 26.2! More to come! Thanks for all the virtual cheers – I felt them today. :)

Congratulations! Im glad you decided to run and finished! I’ve been having the same problems getting back into running post-pregnancy and have just now (my little guy is 18 months old) started to feel like I’m back in my groove and its FINALLY fun again – I didn’t think that would ever happen!

Way to go mama! I saw your tweet about quitting and was so glad you didn’t. I just did my 4th and hardest half marathon and I felt like quitting for the entire second half. I’m learning that I still have a lot to learn about running and just because I ran a marathon doesn’t mean that a half is to be taken lightly. Most of your focus now is on your little one and that’s how it should be! You did awesome be proud.

Congrats! I was running the mini as well. I saw Casey and Cullen around mile 5.5. I wanted to yell “I read Emily’s blog!” but I didn’t. Cullen is freaking adorable.
It was a rough run today for me too. I had twins 6 months ago, and while I had been training, the humidity did me in. The last 2 miles were HARD.
You are awesome for finishing. Cullen is proud, I’m sure!

Sooo proud of you!! I was cheering you on all morning! I think sometimes the half marathons that are the hardest- are the most rewarding. I ran last years flying pig and was soo sick but afterwards I was so thankful that I had finished the race!

[Reply]
Way to go Emily!
[Reply]
congrats on your finish! the heat must have been a shock coming from seattle this time of year. i have a 6 yr old and i struggled with pushing myself in running for a long time. i was ok after he was born but after i had nose surgery a few years ago and an ongoing hip issue the struggle was overwhelming at times. at one point i decided to just run when i wanted, i put away the watch, and i only did races for fun with friends and after about a year of that i got my lust for pushing myself again.
[Reply]
Congrats Emily! Can’t wait to hear more about it, along with Casey’s Pig experience!
[Reply]
Just found your blog and have so enjoyed getting lost in your posts about running, cooking, pregnancy, parenting, marriage, etc! Congrats on your latest race, the first of many as a running-mama! Cheers!
[Reply]
Do you find it a contradiction, or at least a difficult balance, between the yoga mind-body mantra of “listen to your body” and the marathon mentality of push, push, push (or as one of your favorite bloggers MilePosts says, “I run this body”)?
[Reply]
Congrats Emily! You rock. :)
[Reply]
CONGRATULATIONS!!! It was a huge race weekend I’m so glad you did it! I hope Casey had a good marathon too!
[Reply]
So proud of you :)
[Reply]
I ran it too…medal well earned
[Reply]
I’m all up for exercise and keeping fit, but those marathon schedules are full on and lately I’ve been reading about how excessive running ages, it’s also been scientifically proven…
