So I’m running the Seattle Rock N Roll half marathon in the morning. The only thing I’m really feeling going into it is…nervous. Even so, we headed to the expo this afternoon to pick up my bib and hopefully boost my confidence.
It was a HUGE expo with so many great booths and vendors. We had fun walking around checking out all the tables and other races being advertised. Cullen is starting to get used to the racing scene!
It was insanely crowded, and I immediately regretted having the stroller with me. Cullen seemed freaked out by the crowds closing in all around him, so I carried him and used the stroller as a place to store all the awesome samples and swag.
We even ran into my friend Julianna, who is also running tomorrow! I’m excited to have several friends out there on the course with me.
Casey was originally supposed to be running the full marathon tomorrow, but he has actually been in Hong Kong for work this past week (which is why he ran in Vancouver last weekend!). He’ll be back tomorrow morning (we are counting down!) but not in time for the race.
So I’ll be leaving Cullen at home with Aunt Sarah, and saying a prayer that bottles and naps are successful. It feels strange to be driving myself to and from the race all alone! I’ll be looking forward to meeting my cheering squad back at the house afterward.
As far as the race itself goes, I was so hoping to feel prepared and confident this time. I felt like my training was finally on the upswing back when I did the 15k last month. But then Cullen and I got sick, and it lasted for almost two weeks. And so I took three weeks off from running. Excuses, excuses. I know. Trust me.
It is what it is, and I’ll make the best of it. The forecast for tomorrow is cold and rainy. My alarm is set for 4:30am. Here goes nothing!

Good luck Emily! I hope this doesn’t come off as weird but I think both you and your sister are so gorgeous and photogenic. I really wish I was a runner but I always get so discouraged when I can only run for a little without getting out of breath. I’m hoping I can maybe overcome those fears and self-judgement this summer/fall.

I don’t think they can be called excuses when they are _totally_ legit and understandable reasons for disrupted training!!! You are awesome–good luck today!

Good luck!! You went into the Indy Mini not feeling so strong and did great there, you will do amazing on this race! :)

How’d you do?? I finished in around 2:05ish. It was my first half, so I was pretty stoked. The course was a bit long according to my Garmin though. Maybe I was just moving around in the lane too much? No clue. :)

Hi Emily,
I hope your run went really well!
An unrelated question: I’m visiting Washington DC this summer and I was wondering if you could point me to any old posts about good eats in downtown DC? I found Pizza Paradiso for example, but does anything else come to mind?
Other readers, please jump in if you know great inexpensive eats there. Thanks!!

Hey Olena! I’m going to school and D.C. and have gone to a good handful of restaurants now. Sweetgreen is really good, as well as Founding Farmers and Busboys and Poets.

I don’t comment often, but follow regularly, and couldn’t miss saying good luck today! You are such an inspiration to me as a mom and a runner. I’m definitely a runner, and hoping to be a mom someday soon…who balances it all as well as you! Enjoy the race :)
