What an awesome weekend! The main thing I was up to this weekend was hanging out at Blog Her Food – a conference all about food blogging! I’m planning to do a full recap of the conference tomorrow, so for now I thought I’d show you all the other things we were up to in between conference sessions and parties.
Friday was a full day of conferencing, but I skipped out on the evening festivities because Casey and I had a special date night planned! He met the babysitter at our house and then swung downtown to pick me up and whisk me off to the ballpark. He won the company tickets to the Mariners game, and we were sort of stunned when we got to our seats.
Our tickets said row four, which turned out to actually be row ONE. We were directly behind the media pit, with the Mariners dugout right next to us. So cool!
I’ve definitely never watched a game with this kind of view.
Despite being June, it was very chilly in Seattle. Poor planning on my part left me really unprepared for how cold it would be (like 40 degrees!). Rather than annoy Casey all evening by complaining about being cold, I bought a giant plushy blanket and wrapped myself up in a cocoon. Much better!
I don’t follow baseball or watch it on TV, but I do love watching live games. This was an exciting one too!
Clearly the best part of the game is the food. Field roast veggie dog topped with caramelized onions, shredded carrot and daikon, nori flakes, and creamy mayo dressing. Out of this world.
And a giant basket of sweet potatoes fries that we shared.
Three hours later, we celebrated a Mariners victory!
It was so fun to have such great seats and be able to see all the action up close and in person.
It was the first no hitter from multiple pitchers in Mariners history – a great game to watch!
Back at home, our babysitter told us Cullen stayed up two hours past his bedtime. We are a family of Friday night party animals!
Saturday was more conferencing all day long, but Sunday brought sunny skies and an afternoon of fun. Casey and I were up early cleaning and getting our house ready for a special arrival, and then we were off to the airport.
From there we headed up to our old neighborhood – Fremont – to have brunch at my favorite Seattle restaurant, Revel. I was sad to see they had changed their menu to a less vegetarian-friendly version than they usually have, but we all still found plenty of delicious food to eat.
More importantly, the company! Kath was in town for the conference as well, and I was excited to take her to my favorite brunching spot. We met through our blogs when we both lived in Charlotte years ago, so it was fun to get the chance to catch up way out here in Seattle.

Also joining us – my sister Sarah! Sarah actually spent the summer with us last year when we first arrived to Seattle. She had hoped to come back this summer as well, but also needed to find a good job or internship since this is her last summer break. As luck would have it, just last week she finally heard back from an internship she applied to months ago, and she got the job! It’s a great opportunity for her, and I’m no-s0-secretly hoping it leads to a job for her after college.
She’ll be out here with us until August – working, doing some part-time nannying, enjoying Seattle, and relieving me and Casey for some much needed date nights. :)
Cullen is excited to have her here too!
Our gang all finished up brunch and headed over to the Fremont market to browse and shop.
I’m on the hunt for some new (old) furniture to fill up our house – we have so much more space than we used to! I love all the antique vendors that come to the Fremont market – hoping we can find some good pieces this summer now that the market is getting bigger!
It was a gorgeous Seattle day – sunny and just warm enough for t-shirts. My favorite weather.
I’m glad Kath finally got meet Cullen and practice for her own arrival! He was mesmerized by the buttons on her jacket.
Finished off my weekend with a big bowl of summery goodness. I’m so happy all this colorful, fresh food is finally back in season!
Hope you had a wonderful weekend too. Back soon with notes from Blog Her!

Whhhhaaat, how’d I miss the sweet potato fries at the ballpark…which vendor are those from?!?!

I love that group picture with Cullen smiling. I’ve never seen a baby smile so much and smiles really big when taking pictures.
I wish L.A. would start selling vegetarian hot dogs at the Dodgers Game.

Looks like such a great weekend! I’m jealous how able you seem to find Field Roast hotdogs out-and-about. I have yet to see them anywhere! (other than my local CO-OP, even Whole Foods rarely has them, sad sad sad) Glad your sister gets to spend the summer with you too. Can’t wait to see what adventures you guys go on :) Maybe you can convince her to run some races with you!

I’m exhausted just reading about your weekend and thinking about doing all of that with my little one in tow!
So fun that your sis gets to spend the summer with you again — that should be a nice chance for her to really get to know Cullen. It’s hard having family far away when you have a baby and wish they were there to share all the rapid changes in person.

This looks like such a fabulous and fun weekend! How cool that you were so close to the field. I’ve always wanted to go to a Mariners game, but never made it when I lived in Washington.

I agree – the only way to watch baseball is live. Your seats were absolutely amazing, and I am so jealous of the food you found there. Quite possibly the most gourmet food I’ve ever heard of at a ball park (at least in the vending areas accessible from the main thoroughfares)…and very delicious looking. =)

Those sweet potato fries look soooo good! I’m jealous of the seats you had and I’m not even a baseball fan! ;-)

Aww I love that pic of Cullen and Kath! He is so into those buttons!

I have yet to try a Field Roast Dog! They sound yummy but no place around me sells them.
How exciting to have your sister with you for the summer! Not to mention the built in babysitter. :)

Wish I could have spent more time holding C!!

It’s great that you get to spend so much time with your little sister and that Cullen is getting close with his auntie!*

Looks like it was a fun time! I’ve never been to a pro baseball game, but I have been to a couple of college world series games. After almost getting hit by a fly ball, I decided that unless I’m behind a net, I’d rather watch the games at home! LOL
[Reply]
Looks like a lot of fun! Can;t wait to hear your recap on Blog Her! Been watching your tweets!
[Reply]
I would love to see a house tour, too. You give such nice, detailed ones!

I want: Cullen’s shoes – the field roast veggie dog – that delicious dinner in a bowl!

The market looks amazing – I miss good farmers markets like that! I was just in Seattle on Saturday and didn’t know where to eat – I should have searched for Revel!
It’s so crazy that you and Kath are friends… I’m an avid reader of both of your blogs and seeing you guys together and blog about the same thing is crazy :)

Cullen looks so tiny in that photo with kath!

What a great weekend! I love Field Roast, they are always on hand at our house. I love even more that they are at the Stadium! I need to make a trip to Seattle, it’s a lovely city!

That grilled corn looks to die for!

I have always wanted to go to a Blogging Conference – can’t wait to hear more about it!

That rice bowl at the end of your post looks amazing! Is the recipe posted somewhere?
[Reply]
That was a massive pile of sweet potato fries and a great snack at the baseball game. I love going to live games. I cannot wait to hear about the conference.

I’m so jealous of your ball park’s veg options! I’m not vegetarian but I try to eat minimal meat, and at Target Field there is really just nothing veg. What we do have seems like an after thought…like “oh, I guess some people don’t eat meat huh, we should probably throw some vegetables on a plate for them.” Anyways, that veggie dog looks delicious and I am coveting it :)
[Reply]
I love sweet potato fries!!!! And cute family pics!
[Reply]
I heard that no-hitter game was awesome! Wish I could have been there – especially with that view! :)
LOVE Cullen’s shoes in the picture where Kath is holding him. Too cute!
[Reply]
The last photo- veggie bowl- where can I find that recipe? It looks amazing!!
[Reply]
OMG, your bowl of summer food is drool-worthy.
The mariners hold such a special place in my heart. I have an aunt that lives near Seattle and when I was like 13 years old, I spent the summer out there and she took me to my first major league game. That was way back when Alex Rodriguez was just starting out, hilarious how my cousin and I were obsessed with him, and now he is super famous! Anyway, I am SO jealous of your seats, glad you had a great time!

Hi Emily,
Like so many others, I think that bowl of summer food looks amazing. Will you share the recipe of other combinations that you have done? I know you recently did a post on these, but I would love specific combinations that you have made.
Thanks!
