Happy Global Running Day (+ Giveaway!)

Happy Wednesday, friends!  And more importantly, happy Global Running Day!  Crazy to think I’ve been running for over twelve years now, and still going strong today.  Here is a picture from my first ever race – the Race for the Cure 5K in Cincinnati way back in 2005!

I was a total newbie runner and had no idea it would become such a big part of my life.  I knew I needed more activity and exercise in my life, and it seemed like running was a convenient and inexpensive way to ease into the fitness world.  I was fresh out of college and my best friend/roommate and I trained and ran together – I’m pretty our finish time was somewhere around 31-32 minutes.  We were so proud to have run and finished, and couldn’t wait to sign up for our next race.  We were hooked!

Fast forward twelve years, and I just completed another Race for the Cure 5K this past weekend here in Seattle!  Side note – I swear I remembered from our first race that only breast cancer survivors were supposed to actually wear pink, so I intentionally wore something else to this race. Boy did I feel ridiculous when I got there and every other runner was in head to toe pink – haha, OOPS!  Oh well, the colors were wrong but the cause was still right.

Loving the Brooks Ghost Racerback Tank for these warmer summer runs.  It feels like tissue paper and is so breathable!  And the Greenlight Capris are my absolute favorites – I have them in three colors now!

Lacey and I were there super early – first ones to the starting line!  I was surprised that the race portion of the event was actually pretty small – only 100 runners!  Most people were there to do the family walk event.  It was kind of fun and different to do a smaller race!

The run itself felt hard but good.  I tried to push it since it was only a 5K, and the course was relatively flat.  My goal was to finish under 27 minutes, and I beat that by quite a bit!  I’m still not a speed demon, but I’m a whole lot faster than I was when I started twelve years ago.
