About

Welcome to Daily Garnish!  I’m Emily, and I created this space way back in 2008 (how have I possibly been doing this for that long!?).  I’m so happy you found my little corner of the web.

I live in Seattle, Washington with my amazing husband, two wonderful kids, and our old yellow dog.

My husband and I own and operate a local beverage business called Puget Sound Kombucha Co. — you can read more about that on the kombucha page.  It is so much hard work, but it’s a dream come true to have our own business and to get to work together every day. When I’m not at our shop, I’m at home picking up legos, out walking the dog, or cursing under my breath on the treadmill at Orangetheory.

My greatest joy is being a wife and mom. We welcomed Cullen into our lives in 2011, and Graham two years later in 2013. We haven’t stopped moving since.

A bit of background on me and this space!  In 2008 I launched this blog as a self-indulgent way to babble about running and wedding planning.  I had approximately three readers.  In 2009, I quit my desk job and moved from Ohio to North Carolina to go to culinary school. I graduated from Johnson & Wales with a Culinary Arts degree in 2010, and I watched as my life took off down a different path. I moved to Alexandria, Virginia and began doing recipe development and freelance writing, and blogged every step of the way. And just when I thought I was hitting my stride, I found out we were having a baby and moving to Seattle, Washington all in the same week!

We moved to Seattle in 2011, and fell truly, madly, deeply in love with the Pacific Northwest.  We love the local cuisine (which I share a lot of on Instagram!), the incredible natural beauty, and the fact that you can go just about anywhere in sweatpants with no judgement. We love to travel and share our adventures, and I dream of weekend trips and summer getaways through all of Seattle’s gloomy winter.

I’ve been a vegetarian for eight years now, and I love to create healthy meals for our family to enjoy.  Now that I have two kids hanging off my legs while I make dinner, my meals are more family-focused and simple, but they are just as tasty and colorful. You can find many of our favorites on the recipe page!

Over nine (!) years, this space has become a giant thought catalog of my life’s adventures, vegetarian recipes, parenting fails and first, pregnancy journals, dog dramas, race recaps, and everything in between.  So grab a cup of coffee and stay for a while!  Thank you for visiting!
