Happy Friday, my friends! It is glorious and sunny in Seattle today, with just a hint of crisp, fall breeze. I am so excited to spend a low key weekend here in town, after coming down from a very busy month. Cullen headed back to school this week, and Graham had his very first day of preschool this morning. Someone please pass the tissues because I am SO not ready for him to grow up just yet. He turns two exactly one month from today. Hold me.
But lets back up a bit, because if you know me – you know that I’m always running behind!
While we were on vacation in Suncadia, it was nice that we were able to stay pretty active. I didn’t do as much running as I should have, but we did a TON of biking, plus a barre class and a bit of running too. Not to mention I hiked down and UP 1,000 steps with this little monkey on my back.
We were lucky enough to have two big vacations this year, almost back to back. So when we got back into town, I tried to really step it up and push myself hard, knowing another slow week was ahead.
On Monday, I headed to CorePower Yoga and did the sculpt class. This class is essentially basic yoga with weights, and also has some cardio blast and HIIT type of stuff. It’s in a heated room, and I sweat nonstop. I took a different teacher this time, and while her style wasn’t quite my thing, it was still a good workout. Afterward, I took the pups for a quick evening stroll before it got too dark.
On Tuesday, I went for a 5 mile run with my girl, Lacey. We hadn’t seen each other in two weeks, and we had a lot to catch up on. We left the headphones at home and talked the whole time. The run felt surprisingly easy.
On Wednesday, I went to Flybarre for the 60 minute class with my friend Christin. She’s an avid ClassPass-er (and has done over 100 classes) but still hadn’t tried Flybarre yet, so it was long overdue. It was a TOUGH class, and I could tell I was still sore from the scuplt class and run I’d done in the days before. Clearly we had to get Chipotle afterward.
Normally I would have taken Thursday off, as I was seriously sore from all the strength work I’d put my muscles through already. But there was a special event at the local Pure Barre studios – Bring the Men Night!
Yep, Casey and I did Pure Barre together, and it was just as amazing as it sounds. The class was PACKED – so packed actually that they ran out of equipment, so everything we did was with bodyweight instead of bands, balls, etc. The class was ridiculously hard, as the teacher was clearly trying to make all the guys struggle (which they definitely did). But I was also reaaaaally hurting from FlyBarre the night before. My arms were on fire!
We did it with another couple we are friends with, and we all went out to dinner afterward (in our sweaty workout clothes – don’t judge). It was really fun, and it made me miss the many years that Casey and I got to spend working out together. I’m harassing him to join ClassPass too, to try some of the martial arts, climbing wall studios, and HIIT classes. I actually think it would be really fun to get a weekly standing babysitter night to do something like a fitness class together!
On Friday, I took a much needed rest day. I had planned to run, but doing four days of intense workouts in a row was more than enough, and my muscles were screaming for a break. I felt good going into our second trip that I’d gotten a lot of good workouts in, and I was ready to hit the road on Saturday morning in true vacation mode.
I have one more summer recap for you, and then we are all caught up and I am fully ready to embrace fall. Although it’s going to be 80 and sunny here this weekend, so maybe I’m not the only one who didn’t get the memo. Happy Friday to you guys, and I hope it’s a great weekend!
